The SkateNZ Team are heading to Rome for the opening ceremony then disperse to all parts of the country for the each discipline to represent New Zealand at the World Skate Games 2024 in Italy, being held from September 6-22.
Roller sports have become amongst the fastest growing sports in recent years, and Skateboarding is now a popular new Olympic event. The World Skate Games promises to be a high-intensity and very exciting spectator event, featuring a wide variety of roller sports.
The NZ Team includes 70 athletes competing in Artistic Roller Skating (4 athletes), Speed Skating (6 athletes), Downhill Skateboarding (7 athletes), Skateboarding Park, Street, Vert (5 athletes) Rink Hockey (3 teams), and Scootering (16 athletes).
Two NZ officials, Mark Swindells (Speed) and Tony Alexander (Artistic) have also been selected by World Skate to officiate for their disciplines at the World Skate Games 2024.

“It won’t just be the World Championships of skating wheels, but a true festival of the youth” explains Sabatino Aracu, President of the International Federation World Skate. “Each event will take place at the heart of cities, amidst the beauties of the Italian cultural heritage; music will accompany each and every competition, representing the soundtrack of tricks, jumps, records, and team games. Competitions will be surrounded by Fan Fests, providing entertainment, concerts, and shows, and bringing together athletes, fans, and local communities.”
